Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia was ready to rethink what wayfinding looks like in a modern academic library. With multiple libraries, changing student behaviors, and growing demand for flexible study spaces, the Bond Library Team turned to LibMaps to help students easily navigate collections, book spaces, and discover services. Digital Library Services Manager Peta Hopkins shared how LibMaps became a natural extension of the LibCal features they were already using.

Putting Library Services on the Map

Peta used real data – from reference questions to analytics – to shape smarter, more user-centered maps. From highlighting frequently-asked-about amenities to adding staircase hotspots that let users "jump" between floors, Bond's implementation is packed with thoughtful customizations. Integrated hours widgets, live space availability, and links to events and bookings mean students always have the information they need – without extra maintenance for staff

By connecting LibMaps to peer mentoring sessions, silent study areas, computers, and the catalog, the library answers the question "where is it?" instantly. Whether you're just starting to think about library mapping or looking for creative ways to expand your services, Bond University's experience offers practical inspiration and plenty of "we could do that" moments.

Advice for Other Libraries Using LibMaps

Peta shared, Be prepared to be amazed by the cool and unusual ideas your colleagues might come up with and be patient with the to-and-fro within your team as you design the underlying floor plans and provide feedback. It takes longer than you might think but pays off with more accurate and useful maps.”
