The Bootstrap 5 train keeps chugging along to the January 2027 LibGuides transition deadline. Our recent blog post outlined the migration timeline and shared key resources to help you prepare. Today, we're highlighting updated video trainings, new features, and a Learning Lab you won't want to miss.

Training videos to keep you on track 🛤️

The Springshare Training Team has been hard at work updating their Bootstrap 5 transition training videos, with a focus on giving you clear, practical paths from planning to implementation. In addition to revising existing content, they have recorded new, step-by-step sessions that walk through real configuration screens, common questions from libraries, and decision points you may encounter during your own migration.

There is a brand-new video dedicated to preparing your LibAnswers system for Bootstrap 5. This session shows you how to check if you have customizations system-wide or in your FAQ groups that will be affected by the transition. You'll see how to preview and update your customizations so everything looks good after your migration. Your legacy widgets will need an update to BS5 and this training video will show you how!

📽️ Watch: LibAnswers: Prepare your site for Bootstrap 5

Before you transition your LibGuides site to Bootstrap 5, you can (and should!) preview what your site will look like so there are no surprises. This step gives you a safe space to experiment, verify that your branding carries over, and confirm that your layouts, navigation, and custom code behave as expected before anything changes on your live site. This training session will show you how to preview your LibGuides site whether or not you have customizations.

The team has also created detailed videos focused on your LibGuides Bootstrap 5 headers – often the most visible and heavily customized part of your site. One recording guides you through converting an existing Bootstrap 3 header to Bootstrap 5, highlighting which classes and components have changed, how to adapt your navigation for improved accessibility, and how to add dropdown menus. Another video shows you how to build a new Bootstrap 5 header from scratch, starting with a simple navigation bar and expanding to a more complex navigation bar.

Every training video is paired with supporting resources and additional content including:

🗂️ Chapter markers so you can skip to the sections relevant to your needs

💻 Sample code snippets you can adapt to your own site

🎓 Links to other recommended training

As always, if your train becomes derailed at any point you can contact Springy Support for additional assistance. Our support team can review your configuration, point you to targeted resources, and help you troubleshoot issues specific to your system.

Springy Tip: Keep an eye out for updates!

Now that Bootstrap 5 is being implemented across the board, our team is also adding even more look & feel improvements to your LibGuides. These updates are designed to make it easier to apply consistent branding, improve readability, and support accessibility best practices. You will see enhancements in areas like typography, buttons, and layout options – all intended to reduce the amount of custom code you need to maintain.

This Learning Lab is just the ticket 🎫

We know that seeing how another library implements a tool or strategy is often more helpful than simply hearing us describe the options. That's why our Learning Labs have become the cornerstone of our video content. They showcase real-world workflows, in real library environments, with practical tips you can adopt right away. In each session, a library partner walks through their goals, the decisions they made, the challenges they encountered, and their results.

On July 29, we're bringing an expert LibGuides user to the Springy Stage so you can see how a Bootstrap 5 transition played out in a live setting from start to finish. Timothy R. Wilson from the University of Georgia Law Library will share his experience as both a librarian and a developer, offering a detailed look at the migration and his tips for upgrading accessibility and creating more dynamic and engaging content. He'll demonstrate specific techniques to help you get the most out of your LibGuides in Bootstrap 5 – whether you are just beginning to plan your transition or you've already made the migration.
