Learning Lab Creating Trauma-Informed Library Tutorials Using LibWizard

Brittany O'Neill served as the Information Literacy Librarian at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) Library for several years, working with students and faculty in First Year and Transfer Seminars, the Honors College, and English Composition. She recently stepped into a new role as the Online Learning Librarian at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

During her time at UNCW, Brittany encountered some challenges with asynchronous content. Often, virtual learning modules were seen as dry, unappealing, or impersonal. How could they make these learning experiences more engaging, inclusive, and well-integrated?

With the goal of creating more interactive and meaningful information literacy modules, they applied Trauma-Informed Pedagogy to Tutorials and Quizzes built with LibWizard. This teaching approach considers the broader impacts of trauma and the potential paths to resiliency. Don't miss the opportunity to learn how this approach revitalized the information literacy modules for their English Composition program!

This 1-hour presentation will cover:

  • Key LibWizard Features from the Springshare team
  • Principles of Trauma-Informed Pedagogy
  • Steps UNCW took to redesign their tutorials
  • Real-life examples of tutorials
  • Strategies for improving tutorials in an online learning environment
  • Time for Q&A

Register now and join us on Wednesday, August 6 at 1:30pm ET to gain useful insights about how to apply these principles to create more equitable active learning opportunities at your institution.
