Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is one of the gold standards for safeguarding web accounts against hackers, data breaches, and other online threats. Enabling MFA is the best and easiest way to protect your system today, so let's dive into everything you need to know about getting it set up in LibApps.
Why is This Important?
MFA is a multi-step account login process that requires an additional step beyond entering your email and password. For example, users might be asked to enter a code retrieved from an authenticator app on their phone or an email. Adding a second form of authentication acts as a shield against unauthorized account access in the event that your password is ever compromised.
How Does It Work?
There are quite a few different methods of MFA out there, but here at Springshare we are exclusively using two methods:
- Authenticator Apps on smartphones (Google, Microsoft, LastPass, Duo, Authy, etc.)
- Email Code (authenticate login using a code sent to your email)
We highly recommend going with the authenticator app option because it is more secure and can speed up your login process. If your institution already has Single Sign-On (SSO) enabled and you would like to use MFA, you will need to contact your SSO provider/Admin to turn it on within your SSO tool.
Upcoming Deadlines:
If you log in to any Springshare product using LibApps, you will need to enable MFA before the end of the year.
- By July 2025 - All Admin-Level Users are required to have MFA enabled.
- By end of 2025 - All LibApps account holders are required to have MFA enabled.
Now is a great time to enable MFA to take advantage of its next-level protection and learn the ins and outs before it becomes mandatory.
