March Maintenance Magic

It's that time of the year when people get into Spring Cleaning mode, and here at Springshare HQ our version of that is March Maintenance Magic! Your tools' security is extremely important, and something we take very seriously, which is why we're dedicating this blog post to remind you to review your security game plan. Making some simple updates will help you minimize risk and maximize security—which is a win for everyone!

March Maintenance Magic

We are just as dedicated as you are to privacy protection for everyone, so we encourage you to review Springshare's Privacy Policy and take note that we recently reaffirmed our SOC 2 Type II Compliance! Site security is a shared responsibility, and we want to help you get your entire team on board!

Quick Tips for Leveling Up Your Security

Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication: One of the latest updates from Springshare is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)!

  • We recommend that everyone turn on MFA to set up an extra line of defense against bad actors trying to access your account! Watch this video to see how to set up MFA in LibApps today.
  • LibApps admins, want to require all users in your system to use MFA? Read this FAQ for a how-to, plus a more thorough breakdown of why MFA is a vital component to securing your system and what it looks like for users.

Perform Regular Account Maintenance: Get ahead of the game by scheduling routine account maintenance!

  1. Make sure you have multiple admin-level users in each of your LibApps accounts. Don't lose access to your system in the event that someone retires or leaves their position. We have a training session about succession planning if your team has some changes on the horizon!
  2. Be strategic by scheduling a periodic review of who has access to your systems and at what level. Ideally, you should undergo a quarterly review to remove or reduce access as needed. Read this FAQ to see how admins can easily view each user's access to your Springy Tools.
  3. If you realize you need to update a user's account role or permissions, check out these FAQs to get started.

Protect Your Passwords:

  1. Start off on the right foot by creating a strong password and putting a policy in place to ensure everyone understands the rules.
  2. It is crucial to system security to avoid reusing passwords. You might consider using a password management service to help employees securely store their passwords (and avoid the dreaded sticky note under the keyboard).
  3. Never share your password with another member of your team. If another user needs increased account access, it should be approved by an administrator.

It's important to remember that cybersecurity is a team project! Checking in with your team, sending out regular maintenance reminders, and staying up to date with the latest security protocols are essential to ensuring you are working together effectively. Remember that your system is only as strong as your weakest password, so being proactive is the name of the game!
