You might remember our announcement in April about Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) coming to LibApps. At that time, we knew MFA would be required for all users by the end of the year, but with a lot of factors to consider (one might call it a multi-factored decision 😉), we didn't have an exact date locked in. Well, now we have that date! Monday, December 8, 2025 is when MFA will be a required step for all users to sign into their LibApps account.
You don't need to wait until the deadline, we recommend activating MFA now – it's one of the easiest ways you can protect your system!
MFA is a multi-step account login process that requires an additional action beyond simply entering your email and password. You'll be asked to enter a code retrieved from an authenticator app on your phone or an email. Adding a second form of authentication acts as a shield against unauthorized account access in the event that your password is ever compromised. This small extra step provides your institution with a significant improvement in data protection. Trust us – it's worth it!
You will have the option between two different methods:
We highly recommend going with the authenticator app option because it is more secure and can speed up your login process. If your institution uses Single Sign-On (SSO) to log into LibApps, whether you use MFA to log in is set with that SSO method. If you're not sure whether you use SSO to log into LibApps, ask your local Admin. In the coming weeks, users who do not have MFA activated will see a warning on their LibApps dashboard to set it up before December 8.
MFA has already been required for admin-level users, but admins can help by:
